I grew up on a small family farm in North Dakota with my six sisters (yes, six). As my dad would say, "We didn't always have everything we wanted, but we always had everything we needed". In school I enjoyed my math and science classes so someone suggested I go to college for engineering. I was fortunate enough to have a great science teacher in high school who pushed me to pursue an ROTC scholarship. If I remember correctly, she even went to the guidance counselor and picked up applications for me, and wrote a great recommendation letter. I managed to secure a scholarship from the Army and found myself in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology majoring in Mechanical Engineering. It turned out to be a great decision.
To hit the highlights, I showed up in Chicago in my cowboy boots and hat, met my wife when we had identical class schedules freshmen year, and proposed to her during our senior year. We lived in Atlanta for a couple years after graduation, then moved to Michigan. Several years later, we have a house, four kids, and way too many "things". Now, I'm on a mission to clear the house of all the clutter that takes up our space, energy, and time.
